GERMANY TOP CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE (INDUSTRIE-UND HANDELSKAMMERN)

Membership in German chambers of commerce and industry is obligatory for all self-employed persons and legal entities conducting business, including entrepreneurs and enterprises from industry, trade and commerce. There are 80 chambers of commerce and industry in Germany, each covering a specific region as defined by the government. A German chamber of commerce and industry has on average 30,000 members. The smallest chamber has 4,200 members. The largest chamber (Munich Chamber of Commerce and Industry) has 380,000 members. The apex body of the chambers is the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHT) ((Deutscher Industrie- und Handelskammertag) representing the 80 German chambers and about 2.6 million companies.

In Germany, the Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHKs) (Industrie-und Handelskammer) carry out active lobbying work by representing the interests of companies towards municipalities, state, and the federal government.
