SAMPLE JOB DESCRIPTION: VICE PRESIDENT EMEA GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

General Purpose: The Vice President, EMEA Government Affairs represents the company and/or association in diverse policy matters in the region comprising Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The broad objectives of this work is to promote actions and policies that contribute to the success of the company and/or association’s activity sector.

Role Description & Responsibilities:

Strategy Development: Analyze political, policy, technological, business and enforcement landscapes. He or she collaborate with global leadership representatives to design and recommend strategies to accomplish company and/or association’s policy objectives.

Advocacy: The VP EMEA Government Affairs is directly active in policy at the EU level, as well as national and international levels. He or she leads a team of government affairs professionals working to shape and advise on:

  • EU public policy concerning company and/ or association’s activities
  • National policies in the countries of the EMEA region, insofar as they impact the interests of company and/or association
  • The work of international organizations based in the region (in coordination with colleagues from other regions of the global organization), insofar as they affect the company and/or association.

Relationship/Coalition Building: The VP EMEA Government Affairs represents the company in the broader EU and EMEA policy community, cultivating diverse relationships in and beyond to inform development of policy strategies and aid in their execution. Within the company and/or association and the wider organizations of which it is a part, the VP EMEA Government Affairs is  both a leader and a listener, developing and refining the policy consensus among the company and/or association across relevant sector(s), while aligning with wider global priorities. The VP EMEA Government Affairs has a demonstrated ability to work in coalitions.

Management: The VP EMEA leads and coordinates a team of several government affairs professionals as well as outside consultants, and other independent contractors, chairing team meetings and designing policy advocacy plans and strategies. He or she contributes to staff results and development by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and assessing job results; coaching, counseling, and supporting employees. He or she ensures company and/or association’s values are represented and advocated. He or she maintains continuity of contact with members and colleagues by documenting and communicating actions, highlighting issues and contributing to broader global policy discussions. He or she works extensively with outside consultants, within budgetary constraints. Responsibility for personnel, budgetary, and administrative matters, as assigned.

Communications and Teamwork: He or she maintains regular and effective contact with, and synthesize and communicate complex information succinctly and clearly to, multiple stakeholders, global  representatives and key allies. He or she act as a convener, coordinator, and policy consensus-builder for the company and/or association’s  EMEA representatives. Also, as required, liaise with teams elsewhere in the world
