VOTES IN FRANCE ARE NOT CAST YET

People already think this is Macron’s race to lose, that he is the inevitable winner, that the French will rally to stop Le Pen. But today across France there are millions of French who are depressed and dejected that their candidate is out. Even though the three major party candidates who were defeated have endorsed for Macron it may mean little to their supporters. For leftists and union members Macron will be a hard sell. They may decide not to vote. That Macron is up 20 points in the polls may lead to complacency and apathy. People will think there’s no way Le Pen can win. But as with the Brexit vote and Trump’s election, voters may not be tipping their hands.  Voters may be denouncing Le Pen but secretly they agree with what she’s saying. Support for Macron is neither wide nor deep.
