PUBLIC POLICY ADVOCACY OF THE NURSING PROFESSION

The European Federation of Nurses Association (EFN) represents the nursing profession and its interests to the European Institutions, based on the nursing education and free movement Directives. Representing more than one million nurses over 34 National Nurses Associations at European Level, the EFN is the independent voice of the nursing profession.

Public Policy Advocacy

  • Ensuring that patient safety, nurses and nursing is central to the development of Social and Health Policy and its implementation in the EU and Europe (Public Health, Services Directive, Health Services Directive, Informed Patient, Patient Safety, Care for the Older People, EU Challenges for Long-Term Care, Patients Rights in Cross-Border Healthcare Directive, eHealth).
  • Supporting and facilitating a qualitative and equitable health service in the EU and Europe by a strategic contribution to the development of a sufficient, effective, competent and motivated workforce of nurses (EFN Good Practice Guidance on International Nurses Recruitment, Synergy on Directive 36 - Bologna – EQF, The Bologna Process and Tuning, Reuse of Medical Devices, Prevention of Sharp Injuries, Skill Needs Skill Mix and Task Shifting in Nursing, Working Time Directive, Pension, EU Quality and Safety Standards in Nursing Care.
  • Strengthening EFN representation in the EU and Europe and develop EFN key role as bridge between NNA and decision-makers in the EU institutions (Continuing Professional Development (CPD), EU Directive on Mutual Recognition of Professional Qualifications – Directive 36, Structural and Social Cohesion Funds, European Nursing Research.
